PHOENIX - Voter information and registration forms are being provided to currently enrolled VA patients at the Phoenix VA Health Care System. VA's goal is to help veteran patients who may need assistance with voter registration. Veterans can call (602) 277-5551 ext. 7833 to get more information.
"Helping our veteran-patients register and vote has always been important at the Phoenix VA Health Care System," said Mike Achey, Chief of Voluntary Services. "This year, VA added extra emphasis to voter assistance."
Nationwide, the 153 medical centers of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), aided by 750 volunteers, provided voter registration information to more than 6,000 veterans, put more than 6,000 informational posters in place throughout VA facilities and distributed about 166,000 flyers to patients.
This year, VA facilities tapped into non-partisan community resources. The offices of Secretaries of State, state and county election officials and non-partisan groups assisted VA provide voter registration information.
"VA has always been committed to helping veterans exercise their right to vote," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. James B. Peake. "This year we established a uniform approach for helping our patients who need assistance to register and to vote."
