Quilting is a unique American tradition that joins cultures and symbolizes the bonds of family, history, comfort and commitment.
The Casa Grande Quilting Guild is made up of women from Casa Grande, Sun Lakes and other parts of the Valley. Chairperson Georgia Simpson says the group decided in the last year to honor Arizona soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan by making and presenting them with the hand-made quilts. Simpson says the group also will give quilts to families of deceased veterans.
Members of the Casa Grande Quilters Guild donate all the materials to make the quilts, as well as their time. So far, they have made and donated to the VA Medical Center about 50 quilts. This is the first formal presentation to the soldiers.
